My sculpture comes from a process in which a block of clay is steadily evaluated and refined as to its congruence with a personal visual grammar. 

This grammar has emerged from a lifetime spent climbing through twisting sandstone canyons and up narrow alpine ridges. 


This grammar has been steeped in the rhythms of calligraphic wildstyle, the panels of the Alhambra, the script of the Torah scroll, and argillite pipes carved in the Haida Gwaii. 


Sometimes, in canyons, on ridges, immersed in a rhythm, I am struck by a powerful sensation of divinity undergirding all things. 


Ultimately, this grammar is my attempt to share this presence of divinity with those that hold my work in their hands.
